In the dream, a great danger was looming over you. But I was there for you, ready to help you no matter what.
After about 100 hours of work, it's finally done! Full version feat. Non-explicit nudity & my thoughts on the piece under the cut.
Tumblr media
Ah, I'm very happy with how this turned out. There are more things I would have liked to do, but are a little beyond my skillset for right now.
I wanted to capture the post Not-A-Date dream if you're really going for that True Love ending. The sense of being trapped by an unseen force; the sense of being together but still yearning. Daeran somewhat adrift, yet still clinging to his lover. The symbolic halos in the background eclipse together, enhancing the light between them. Meanwhile the presence of The Other seeps into everything, poisoning what should be a pleasant dream into a nightmare.
I wanted to keep their poses just ambiguous enough that you can't tell if they're laying in bed or dancing; I think I managed! I hope I did anyway, lol.
Basically I wanted to be self indulgent, so I was :3. To everyone's benefit, I think.

So I just have to wax poetical about this note you find from Daeran during his pre-romance. You find it in a hidden spot he's given you the key to, and at this point you'd expect any note from him to be sarcastic or raunchy (probably both). I had spoiled myself that there was a note, but not the contents, so I was floored to see this. It's just... so purely sincere. Daeran, who is fully expecting to be devoured at any moment and can't ask anyone to save him, simply asks that you remember him. It's just so vulnerable and heartbreaking like I screeched so softly you don't even know

i did the good ending for daeran too, but sometimes i feel a bit bad about it because he seems sadder than he does in the happy evil one. good ending daeran still has a lot to worry about, and there's reservation there. i feel like i'm just making him 'good' because it makes me feel better and not because it's what's best for him :c i know it's just a game but he is such a compelling character!
Oh, hello, anon! Thank you for the ask. I'll share here my impressions if you don't mind!
As far as I see it, the Good Ending isn't making Daeran "good." It's giving him a chance to reconsider who he wants to be and what he wants to do with his life by pointing the flaws in his worldview. In the end, he may decide he is fine with who he is! Or evolve into someone else, but it will be a choice made after he has put thought into it. Instead of keeping with a behavior born of habit, indulging in the same excesses he used to distract himself from the Other's constant presence.
Growth usually comes with uncertainty and self-reflection comes with sadness. Reconsidering your life never starts with happiness and self-fulfillment, it takes time to get there. Yes, he has a hard time for an undetermined amount of time as he decides who he wants to be... but I also think asking yourself the hard questions can lead to a fuller, more real happiness.
You have looked in the mirror and either liked what you see, or worked to improve what you don't like. No matter the answer you reach in the end, that's an ultimately happier outcome to me. And that's something the Good Ending invites him (a bit forcefully, admittedly) to do.
I don't see a "sadder" Daeran, but a Daeran that's stepping into a phase of growth. Sometimes being immediately happy isn't the most desirable outcome long term, sometimes it's turning a blind eye to what could make our life better.
And that's what I like so much about the DLC bits: this is a Daeran who is, in fact, reconnecting with emotions he had pushed away and giving a good hard look at himself. Redefining who he wants to be. It doesn't have to be a good person, I in fact expect him to still be mostly selfish and a bit of an asshole... but in a way that's less of an escape from reality. A way that makes him happier in the long run.

Due to Trickster being an underwhelming path story wise (outside of those sweet sweet sneak attacks) I've decided to merge Trickster and Demon for Zrise's KC canon in my mind. Demon is so sick. He surely wouldn't choose Demon at first but he could be easily swayed. Socothbenoth and Nocticula being toxic awful siblings who hate each other helps me solidify this in my mind. Seeing as they are the advisors for those paths... That and even on his Trickster run Zrise betrays Soco and sides with Nocticula.

Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous dlc 6
is out - I already spotted Heinrix’s VA Christopher Tester in two different roles and Abelards VA (Ian Russel) speaks one NPC too - I wonder who else is there.
For those who do NOT play the game but are interested in the voices, here a video to get an impression (for those who play the game it might be a little spoilerous).

Planning out a lich playthrough and I feel like there's a big difference between people who genuinely like camellia and go lich (love yall) and people who sacrifice camellia because they dont want to sacrifice any other companions (bad and wrong), so I'm going to sacrifice daeran (my fave) or ulbrig if that's an option (my second fave) in solidarity.
But at the same time if you aren't romancing anyone you wouldn't have to sacrifice anyone so I'm like??? Mostly because idk who my guy would romance. He's manipulative and really more interested in the acquisition of knowledge more than he is love so it'd need to be someone useful, so idk if Daeran would fit the bill necessarily?

I have a lot of thoughts about the Secret ending and Endgame but the one that's got me in a spiral [affectionate] right now is
how when you go back to Areelu's lab and you find her memories. You play through this whole situation with her kid summoning monsters and doing stupidass shit right. You see it all and then at the end there's this very odd bit of dialog where the kid is like 'oh mom you'd never actually let me be hurt and you're only letting me explore on my own and someday I'll be big and strong thank you mom!' or some shit like that.
That moment and the kid's horrible death are the only memories you see of him, and then you get to speak to Areelu herself. And what she has to say is so interesting right, she talks about how absorbed she was in her work and how desperately focused she was on essentially saving mankind from themselves that she didn't even realize Inquisitors were at her door until it was too late to stop them from murdering her child.
And of course seeing her kid die like that broke her, of course not being able to resurrect him because Pharasma had already passed judgement made things worse.
But what gets me is that her grief, her regret, is something she's never actually processed. When she talks to you in the secret ending, and you spell out all you've done to understand her, she breaks because she can't see you as anything but her child anymore... which is so heartbreaking to me because she never even knew who her child was.
All she has are her memories, which themselves have literally become projections of her own regrets. The kid we see summoning up Balors at age ten, who fully understood and accepted his mother's motivations, who only ever acted out because of curiosity and never because of a harsh sentiment between them... I'm pretty sure that kid never existed. Areelu, so caught up in breaking the world to avenge and reclaim her child, forgot who that child ever actually was.
The implications of the Knight Commander's time in her Lab suggest that (if you're playing a shorter-lived race anyway) she takes them from some point in childhood to begin her experiments; periodically snatching up and then re-releasing them to assure her long-term study is successful. She's manipulative if not outright coercive, resorting to abusive experimentation, ruining the life of a living child to have perfect dominion over a dead one.
Her tragedy is so delicious to me, I must say.

The Hierophant, Strength and the Hanged Man for Carmen?
Thanks for the ask! For once, there is something resembling brevity to my answers.
(also reordered to obscure some aeon spoilers for anyone for whom those are a concern)
[tarot asks]
Strength: On what issue is your character persistent?
The abomination thing. It’s the abomination thing. It’s most certainly that, the abomination thing. Carmen has developed a fringe theory of the cosmos in which the pristine world of Golarion has been corrupted by the unnatural incursions of creatures and forces not meant to exist on it. History is full of hubristic supernatural overreaches, evil wizard tyrants, and wicked gods and demons sowing destruction. Fey tricksters run rampant in the wilds, the self-righteous so-called good gods leave doctrines of discord for their followers while turning their backs on disaster, the unquiet dead have so infested the earth that a whole disgusting nation of them has taken root. People turn to religion for salvation and the gods feed on their fears and their hopes and all their beautiful, rich lives like parasites. And hardly anyone can see the connection, that there’s not good and bad types of abomination, but that it’s rotten all the way down. That you need to purge it all: the angels and the demons and everything else. The Worldwound is but one corner of a far greater crusade, one that mortals fight endlessly every day just to survive. She’s absolutely miserable to discuss religion with.
(From a meta perspective, this was an adaptation of her impractical and logic resistant tabletop philosophy that every arcane magic user ever born was, deep down, evil, because magic is inherently evil and corrupts everything it touches.)
The Hanged Man: When has your character needed to step back and look at things from a different perspective?
Honestly, just being appointed Knight Commander was a major moment for this. Carmen has never thought of herself as a leader. She knows she doesn’t have a lot of social savvy or patience for trying to parse issues outside of her skillset. Her skills in compromise are generally poor. She doesn’t like delegating tasks. She’s most comfortable receiving orders, not giving them. And grand strategy? She’s a soldier, she doesn’t know what it is that generals do. It’s hard to understand what she’s being asked when Galfrey makes her intentions clear, and it took some processing to come to terms with and accept. Trying to push outside of her usual narrow view of the present and to consider Galfrey’s reasoning, Galfrey’s character, and the state of the crusade did help. As much as the symbolic reasons or the reason of blessings she knew she hadn’t received and disliked being associated with didn’t resonate with her, she could see logic to the crusade needing new blood and fresh morale. The disaster of Kenabres made that much clear. And some morally superior part of her could also be swayed by the logic that she was the right choice for being more upright, for being more clear-headed, for being willing to do what others wouldn’t, just like when she purged the Wardstone.
I suppose in the end it would up less the empathetic understanding of others and more a roundabout way of reaching her own warped perspective there though. Common Carmen L. She does respect Galfrey though, mostly. She has very complicated feelings about Galfrey. All part of the toxic yuri love triangle.
AEON SPOILER ZONE
The Hierophant: Who has served as a mentor to your character?
Carmen has had effectively zero people in her life in the recent past she would consider mentors, especially in the crusade. To “mentor” her would require demonstration of shared values, valuable skills superior to her own, and a temperament she finds agreeable and worthy of respect. Let me just say that there are no characters in the game who meet these standards. She respects some, like Greybor or Galfrey, as equals or near equals. But there’s no one who can put her in a position where she feels that she is a student. The closest that you could probably come is the aeon in the mirror (it’s always that damn aeon in the mirror), and that’s because to her, it is very much not a separate being. It’s just her. She’s just spending time clearing her head and thinking- that’s normal, everyone does that! And she easily internalizes insights she picks up from there. It’s fine. Don’t worry about it.
Would love to see a dynamic of mentor and penitent disciple between her and Hal if she ever halfway shaped up her act though, that would be fun. I thought about that periodically in 2021.
